Endorphins are group of hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system. They can cause any number of physiological functions.

Endorphins, which are structurally similar to the drug morphine, are considered natural painkillers because they activate opioid receptors in the brain that help minimize discomfort. They can also help bring about feelings of euphoria and general well-being

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.

Regular Exercise increases Endorphins to create great positive feeling which can increase self-esteem, improve social skills, and just make a more positive day. Exercise is not just running or at the gum – walking, swimming, yoga, tennis, basketball, etc. Anything that causes enough stress on the body that it releases endorphins.

Other ways to Increase Endorphins Naturally:

Eat Chocolate – Cocoa contains a mood-boosting compound that gives your body an endorphin boost a chemical that suppresses pain so you feel more pleasure.

Laugh – when you get a case of the giggles your body release endorphins that increase your pain threshold so the more you laugh, the better you feel.

Make Music – Your brain spews endorphins when you actively take part in creating music – so hum, tap, dance, or sing at the top of your lungs.

Group Fitness – Studies show that you product more endorphins when you workout with others (remember working out could be any exercise – hence increase social skills)

Lavender – Spritz it everywhere – studies show that aromatherapy makes nerve cells release a mix of neurotransmitters – including endorphins.

Acupuncture – Research suggests that the pain sends a message straight to the brain, which releases endorphins as a remedy.

As parents, decide which of these may work well with your kids and enjoy. Have some chocolate (maybe even a small piece on the way to school), Turn up the Radio on the way to school and sing and dance along, Get some good Lavender Oil to spray, and maybe even exercise with your child or practice your child’s extracurricular activity with him/her.
